College Already?

Maybe it's ironic K2 is studying fabic now in science but I want to share a nostalgic project that brings the lesson full circle. Today I started making college quilts for my 18-year old twin sons. The quilts are T-shirt quilts made from beloved shirts saved for many years. A poignant moment today was cutting apart the shirts my sons, Bobby and AJ, wore on the first day of kindergarten!  Grab the Kleenex and sound the warning to all parents: start the T-shirt collection now and don't waste ONE minute because those babies will be all grown up and packing their college bags before you know it.

Lakeside Carnival

Rain or shine, there's possibly no more sensory-overload day than Carnival. Of course, K2 is there in full glory.

It's a special time for me to see former students. Here's a nostalgic look back. Miss you all! Love and hugs.

Daily 5

Grab your book box, new library book and a cozy spot as we begin "Daily 5" and Read To Self.

Temperature

In science we used thermometers to learn about measuring temperature. "Look at the red liquid go up.", they shouted!  Or down. We tried holding them in the sun or the shade. Did the temperature change? How cold is zero? Or 11 below zero? K2 scientists learned first hand with a very short visit to the walk in freezer in our cafeteria!

Magic Sticks

After filling the marble jar, the overwhelming decision was to reward ourselves by making "magic sticks". Tasty and colorful, not to mention fine motor skills getting a workout!

Special Guests

We started something new this year to extend the fun of "Mystery Reader". A number of community members, government officials and CISD Board Members or administrators will be surprising K2 with an exciting book or lesson. We're calling this "Mystery Leader" because the children have to guess what role they play in Coppell leadership. Look who came to launch the fun: Board Member Amy Dungan.

Former Lakeside Teacher of the Year, Amanda Stone, reads a favorite book by renowned author/illustrator couple Audrey & Don Wood. Amanda formerly taught fifth grade but now teaches pre-school! Thanks for coming, Amanda.

Officer Rachel comes to share her sewing skills. We can't believe she made a police officer puppet!
