Highlights of the Week

You know the saying, "A picture is worth 1,000 words". Here's just some of the fun in K2 this month.

Mrs. Timmerman reading and challenging deep, creative thinking.

Making letters with Play-Doh. "Look, this is my name", says one learner.

Illustrating in Science Journals about nature.

Counting with a scarecrow pointer is ALWAYS more fun!

Introducing the Little Buddy, Middle Buddy and Big Buddy classes. We love learning with other grade levels.

Learning about a famous author and hearing about the upcoming MO WILLEMS DAY in our library.

Having Miss Pam, Lakeside's loveable office aide, visit our classroom with her medal from the Chicago Marathon.

Spirit Rally champs for INTEGRITY.

We love to WONDER

Wonder is a part of the kindergarten learning process. And prediction. And sharing. And research.
The Texas State Fair lands smack dab in the middle of our math lesson. BIG TEX is as familiar to these learners as corndogs.

Collaborate. Make a tally mark. Create the numeral. Discuss words "most" and "least" and "equal".  Who knew learning could be this much fun?

Kindergarten Lock-In

Imagine coming to school at night when the doors are usually locked and the lights are out. That's the fun of Kindergarten Lock-In, our annual event that bring squeals of delight, especially when it's time for the flashlight dance. Don't forget to wear your PJ's.

Treats in the cafeteria then fun in the classrooms.

Building Stamina

Every day we work on building stamina with our reading. During "Daily 5", everyone finds a comfortable spot that's not by their BFF. Ready, set, read. We set the timer to make sure we meet our goal of reading minutes. Some days it is easy. Some days it is harder. But that's all a part of building reading stamina.

Safety Lesson

Look who showed up at Lakeside to teach us about stranger danger, 911, cross walks, booster seats, bike helmets and smoke alarms. The timing couldn't be more perfect since kindergarten is learning all about Community Helpers.

Math Fun

Pumpkins and scarecrows can make for great math activities! And counting to 100 is always more fun with a partner.
