Butterfly Life Cycle

Our study of animal life cycles is almost complete.  We started with caterpillars, that changed into a chrysalis, and have now hatched into butterflies.  Time to release them to their natural habitat.  Let's take one last look inside the the classroom, then it's outside we go and.....goodbye butterflies.

Off They Go!

Chicks are a lot like kids.  They grow way too fast!  These little squeakers are growing wing feathers and will soon be able to fly out of the coop.  So today was the farewell party.  For the chicks, not the kids (theirs will be here all too soon). Off they go to the farm to eat, grow, play and hopefully lay some eggs for next year's kindergarten students.

Holding Chicks

As a general rule of thumb, science in kindergarten is 80% "hands on".  But in this case, it's 100%.  No question about it. This is one science lesson they'll never forget.

Planting Seeds

"Meet me around the perimeter of the carpet and pick your favorite seed to plant".  That was a tough decision for some students who couldn't decide between corn, cucumbers or snap dragons.  Everyone got the chance to plant and now we can't wait for the shoot to poke through the soil.  Plant life cycles are almost as exciting as animal (chick) life cycles.

Cafeteria Wasted Food

We are making great progress in the cafeteria with eating (and not wasting) food.  This  picture was taken in November when LOTS AND LOTS of food went in the trash can.

But look at this week.  Just a few items are left, and 2 of the 3 were ice cream.

Mystery Reader

This Mystery Reader really had them fooled.  The class thought a K2 dad was behind this get up, so you can imagine their surprise when it turned out to be Dana's MOM!  Nice work.  And great book.  Our class LOVES Mystery Readers.
