What Does 10 Below Zero Feel Like?

When you study "temperature" in science, how can you engage students to understand freezing and warming?  At Lakeside, we visit the cafeteria and take a quick field trip into the walk-in freeze where the temperature is 10 below zero.  These scientists made predictions on what will happen to water, milk, liquid glue, a banana, and other items in this cold.  And what about rubbing alcohol -- we called it the stuff mom uses to clean things.  Surprise!

We didn't stay long.  Just long enough to scream for the ice cream all around us.
